The FORT Information Science Branch staff enhance discovery and management of our natural world and turn information into knowledge. Branch staff offer expertise in information management and delivery, information technology and security, GIS and remote sensing applications, and other environmental information science products including Web applications, decision-support systems, and integrated access to distributed databases.
FORT scientists and developers have just released the first version of the Jonah Infill Data Management System, which will track information associated with surface disturbance and reclamation efforts in the Jonah Natural Gas Field, west-central Wyoming. This Web-based system uses customized interface, input, and reporting capabilities that allow users to easily submit data into a clearinghouse, perform simple and complex queries, and produce maps and reports online. The application will help the Jonah Interagency Mitigation and Reclamation Office (JIO) evaluate large amounts of data and support their decisionmaking on reclamation activities associated with oil and gas activities in the Jonah Field. It also will contribute to standardizing, documenting, and automating their project business practices; and for the first time, managers will be able to evaluate trends in real time using this system.
