The Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI) is holding a series of public workshops in Rawlins, Pinedale, Kemmerer, and Rock Springs in mid-August to engage the public in development of habitat enhancement projects in southwestern Wyoming. Each meeting will be held at the local BLM office. The workshops are the first step in developing local teams to identify and address important habitat issues, identify areas where habitat can be enhanced, and begin development of projects for completion in 2010. Dozens of projects for 2009 were similarly identified, and 18 projects for 2008 are in progress. The WLCI is a long-term, science-based effort to assess and enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitats at a landscape scale in Southwest Wyoming, while facilitating responsible development. Formal WLCI members include the USGS, USFWS, U.S. Forest Service, BLM, Wyoming Game and Fish, Wyoming Department of Agriculture, and county commissioners and conservation districts.
