The taxonomic classification for amphibians is

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Amphibia

Salamanders are in the Order Urodela and anurans (frogs and toads) are in the Order Anura. Family, Genus, and Species names are listed below for each animal.

Anaxyrus is the new name that has been suggested (and generally adopted) for the genus Bufo (Frost, D.R. et al. 2006. The amphibian tree of life. Bullletin of the American Museum of Natural History, No. 297: 1-371. New York).  Lithobates was suggested to take the place of Rana but was rejected in later studies (Hillis, D.M. 2007. Constrraints in naming parts of the Tree of Life. Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 42:331-338).
